I have been going through some Purgatory Golf Club design plans and correspondence and came across this, which is the highest compliment I could have been given regarding the design of the bunkers:
Purgatory GC, Noblesville, Ind. A big, brassy 7,700-yard breakout course by young Ron Kern, it’s a daily-fee–and heavily bunkered. All 133 are marvelous splashed-sand stuff, the best since Alister Mackenzie worked his California magic 70 year ago.
